OUR MISSION

The Global Art Initiative's mission is to break the poverty cycle for disabled artists in Third World Countries. We are a non-profit focused on education and the sale of original artwork to benefit handicapped artists globally. We engage children and adults in art projects geared to developing an understanding of disability and the awareness that artistic ability is not limited by a disability.  Our hope is that through their experience with the Global Art Initiative, participants will take compassionate action, becoming donors in the larger shared humanitarian project.

The Gables Republic Tower

Dallas, TEXAS - July 28, 2009

Lobby of The Gables Republic Tower
The Gables Republic Tower in downtown Dallas was the venue for the first Dallas exhibit by the Global Art Initiative. We were pleased by the interest shown by the residents of The Gables, and we are grateful for the support and assistance provided by Susan Scott and Cherika Latham.
Ken Nganga's paintings on gessoed cloth hang on glass
The exhibit filled the lobby area with original and giclee prints from five artists represented by the Global Art Initiative. The works shown to the right are by Ken Nganga from Kenya. They are acrylic on gessoed cloth. All the works were hung on large expanses of glass.

The exhibition also turned out to be a great opportunity for other members of the art community like Mary and Alberto Tomas from the Mary Tomas Studio Gallery to network with each other. Also in attendance was paraolympian and 5-time gold medal winner Quintin Stephens.

The exhibit included Crutch Painting for children. Here you see a young lady decorating a metal crutch that will be sent to a disabled person in a Third World country. It is likely that the recipient will have old broken wooden crutches or none at all.
