Donna Steward Finds Joy in Painting
My paintings come from with in me.
What is surprising and different is the intensity of the colors. My love of color is influenced by the time spent in our home in the Bahamas. The deep purples, bold crimsons, rich blues, greens and yellows are a reflection of the love for “my island in the sun”. The paintings turn out to be bright and cheery and full of soul like the island people.
The subject matter ranges from flowers, wildlife, to figurative, inspired by my surroundings. I try to work in a series, painting the same subject in different ways, experimenting with different mediums and surfaces which helps creativity.
Although watercolors are my preferred medium, I also enjoy working in mixed mediums and acrylics. The beauty of nature, the wonderful people and the marvels of life I have experienced are some of the deepest expressions of my work.
